Just bought a new pair of Sennheiser headphones. The model is the PC 363D 7.1 PC Gaming Headset which use a USB-port to interface with the PC. When opening the box you are urged to download and install their driver before connecting the headset to your PC. I went to the Sennheiser website, found the correct product page and downloaded the latest driver for Windows 8.1.

The exact name of the driver I downloaded is “3D G4ME1 Win 8.1 V1.5” and was downloaded on the 21st July 2015.

After having downloaded the driver, installed it, connected the headset to my PC and restarted my computer (restart is required), the problems started.

Sitting on the desktop was not a problem but when I started a game (GTA V for PC) my computer would Blue Screen, freeze up and had to be force rebooted. This happened three times in a row. I went through all my components and checked for updates (GPU, motherboard, chipset, keyboard/mouse etc.) – all up to date and running well. Also Updated GTA V. I then proceeded to restart my PC for the last time and launch GTA V again but, to no surprise, the Blue Screen of Death greeted me once again.

I disconnected the headset from the PC and went to google, searching for problems regarding sound drivers and GTA V.
Many relevant hits showed and specifically one post, made on the Rockstar GTA V Support page, caught my attention. This guy experienced BSODS and the “GTA V has stopped working”-error message because of his PCI soundcard.

Having read this I uninstalled the Sennheiser driver and restarted the PC. Back in Windows I launced GTA V, Skype and some other applications. Much to my surprise everything worked – flawlessly. After I uninstalled the driver for my headset the problems went away and Windows had no problems recognizing the microphone or the headset as a sound device.

I’m still using the headset this way and I’ve not experienced any problems so far.

TL;DR driver for the headset caused constant BSODS and errors making it impossible to use the computer. Uninstalled the driver. This solved all the problems and the headset now works flawlessly without the driver.
